Gamer Girl

The first video game I ever finished all the way through was this:

Yes...if you are a child of the 80's I'm sure you remember this beast of a game. "Adventure" tried to be a role-playing game, I think. Those fucking keys and the dragons! Ugh.

The last game I beat was this:

Personally, I think it's amazing what we've done in thirty-ish years of video game design. Today I learned my nephew is thinking about getting into the business. That would be so cool. Too bad he's not old enough now, he could make the Tiva video game. :-)

I remember blowing into my cartridges for Nintendo and sometimes using another game to stick into the port and make it work. It usually did.

My roommate said to my brother and I today, "Are you going to be playing Final Fantasy when you're 80?" Our response was, "Hell yeah."

I've been trying to branch out and play shooter/action games, but there's just too many things to do with all the buttons. I'm used to maybe four different things on four buttons. Now I have to master eight. Fuck that. Give me a simple turn-based role playing game any day.

Still, I love video games. I love the CG graphics. I love playing navigator and figuring out the puzzles. Sometimes I love the stories. I'm really enjoying Enchanted Arms and listening to it in Japanese. *Swoon* I'm really enjoying that option. American voice-over actors are getting better, but no one does it like the Japanese!

The second thing on my mind today is rude people. You know what I find rude? Leaving a mess behind in a public place because you're too lazy to clean it. There is NOTHING worse than having to use the bathroom and walking into a stall with...well...just about any bodily fluid you can think of somewhere in visual range. Sorry girls, but you are the worst! Woman's bathrooms are disgusting. Aiming to pee because you won't sit on the seat isn't fun, we weren't built that way.

How about when you spill or break something in a supermarket and just leave it there? Or when you throw your trash around the movie theater despite the fact there are THREE garbage cans near the exits. You carried the shit in, emptied it and now you can't carry it to the trash? What the fuck? Would you go to your mother's house with a soda and leave it on her favorite couch?

I'd hate to think this type of rudeness is just in America. I've been to Scotland and England and I don't remember public places being as messy as they are here. Have you ever seen a self-serve restaurant at a theme park? Ack! Condiments squirted all over the place, clumps of napkins hiding the relish that came out of the container and soda all over the floor.

It's not just a problem of laziness here in this country. It's the mentality. "I don't have to clean that up, someone else gets paid to do it." Well you know what, that's true, but maybe you know why the customer service you get from places isn't the best. I'd hate to cater to people, yes them to death and deal with their outburst just to clean up after them too. We all know people in the service industry don’t make a ton of money, isn’t it time we gave them a break instead of busting their chops even further?

Stop being rude, America. Clean up after your damn selves.

*Steps off soap box.*

Listing post

Today felt like a good day to do this.

If you happen to...

Watch a movie, I enjoyed The Libertine, The Matador, and Lucky Number Slevin. Why? Johnny Depp is delicious. Pierce Bronson is hilarious. Lucy Lui is adorable.

Play a game, I suggest Enchanted Arms or Star Wars Lego 2. Arms has beautiful CGI, normal Japanese save the world story, but the grid battle system makes for an interesting strategic turn based RPG. The Star Wars games is so cute it's not even funny.

Read a book, I just finished Lover Awakened and rather liked it. It's a dark story of redemption, romance and vampires. I read a second vampire-romance this week, but it wasn't very good so I won't bother recommending it.

Listen to a CD, I'd go for 30 Seconds to Mars. Yes, that is the dude from My So Called Life and Fight Club singing. The video for The Kill is awesome!

Be in England and want to go to a Fantasy Convention check that out. The editors from Writers of Worlds--my publisher--will be there hanging out.

Want to give me money, feel free.

What a way to start the month...

Weird thing, Monday morning, I woke up after having a dream I won a trip to Australia. I probably had the dream because I watched five minutes of Mad Max Sunday night. So anyway, I won this trip but I didn't have my passport. Then I stuck my hand in my back pocket and it was there! After waking up and putting on the news, I learned Steve Irwin was dead. Very sad. I liked him. He was the only person that actually got me interested in watching wildlife shows. I even used the “Crikey” catch phrase in my Play nice book. I feel bad for his wife and kids, what a shame.

Next week is the five-year anniversary of 9-11. This month is starting great isn't it?

Well, I have a couple more interviews set up. I'd like to believe in miracles, but we all know Jenn is a cynic.

I've fleshed out my latest idea for a series of novels. If I can get this idea to work it should be unique and hopefully people will want to read it. I can't go into more detail because well, I'm slightly paranoid. Her name is Felicia Fascino. Both names mean something in other languages, so I think the name will fit considering what I'm going to do. We'll see how it goes.

I finished reading all the StarDoc books I won from SL Viehl I wasn't too keen on the last book and skimmed most of it. She changed POV from first person to third person after five books. Eh. I'll probably get the next book in the series, because I love the characters and the world she created.

JR Ward's newest book came out yesterday, I'll get that one eventually. I also want to continue the Rain series by Barry Eisler.

I sent a query letter to Book Ends Agency for my romantic/suspense novel, I don't see how they could refuse me considering they sold an "erotic" novel about shapeshifting wolves. The first chapter opened up with a three some. O.o My luck though, I still won't be good enough.

I know I need to start writing again, I haven't done anything since I finished editing Tiva a couple of weeks ago.

Roomie and I did a bunch of brainstorming about this new project. I want to make it as realistic as possible, which means a ton of research, but that's fine by me. I just need to figure out where and how to start it.

I haven't seen any new movies, but that'll probably change after this weekend. I actually want to see The Covenant, it's The Craft with guys! Jenn likes guys.

The new fall TV season isn't starting off with a bang. I think I might only pick up one or two new shows, but I don't think any of them are going to be "Must See". The only shows I have to watch are LOST, CSI, Survivor, and Sunday night on FOX. Of course 24 and American Idol when they starts in January, but other than that, eh, whatever keeps my interest will work. I'd probably be better off watching less TV and doing more writing.

Interesting concept.
