There is a reason I put "Romance" in the header, stick with me, maybe you can help me out this time!
According to RWA (Romance Writers of America), a Romance Novel has two basic elements: a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.
Definitions of both from their website:
A Central Love Story: The main plot centers around individuals falling in love and struggling to make the relationship work. A writer can include as many subplots as he/she wants as long as the love story is the main focus of the novel.
An Emotionally Satisfying and Optimistic Ending: In a romance, the lovers who risk and struggle for each other and their relationship are rewarded with emotional justice and unconditional love
I'm not sure that I'm a Romance Author.
*Gasp*
I know, but it's true. While it's 100% true that most of my couples have an emotionally and optimistic end to their relationship....eventualy, not each book is the end of their relationship. Another thing with my "Romance" novels is that the couple is not the central focus of the story or the main plot, in fact, it's usually a subplot, except for That News Guy.
This has been a bit of a problem for me because I've often gotten feedback that I'm not a Romance Author or my books are not categorized correctly.
I'm honestly shocked by it and not sure what I should do. I've asked other authors, editors, and even a few people in publishing and each one gives me a different answer. I think my Author Branding - SciFi and Suspense with a Dash of Romance is pretty good, but I may need to change it up. I don't want to mislead readers and if calling myself a Romance Author, that is what I feel like I am, I just don't write the same type of Romance novels that RWA considers Romance.
What do you think? COMMENT BELOW, I'd love to hear what you think!

You’re a Romance, but different. I personally am fine with the way you call yourself. As long as I know what kind of book I’m reading, I’m good
Call yourself whatever you like, you ARE a writer after all! How about taginging yourself as an unique word crafter?
Why not just call yourself a science fiction writer? I think we compartmentalise a bit too much these days.
