Author Interview with Mia Lansford @myota116!

What is the worst thing you’ve written, how did you learn or know it was bad, and what did you learn from it?

The worst thing I wrote was a draft of this book It’s Gonna Be Love. I tried pitching it and asking people for help. Being disabled has made finding CP nearly impossible. I’ve only had one person willing to CP for me. There’s only so much one person can help. So I hired an editor. I was lucky to find someone willing to teach and to be honest about my work. With his edits, I deleted 50k, read some of the leading sellers in romance books, and then rewrote almost everything. Except the scene at The Botanical Gardens, I liked it way too much to cut.


Why did you start writing and when did you decide to go professional?

I’ve always been a true introvert. Imaginary friends. Reading over playing outside. I was having too much fun not to want to go back and revisit a story. So I wrote them down to revisit. About ten years ago I wrote a full-length novel and figured why not? So I started researching on the Internet what was the next step and went from there.

Do you write in more than one genre? Which ones and which do you like the best?

I’ve written historical romance and young adult romance but I’m only published in contemporary. I probably like the contemporary best but the conflicts are way easier to create in the past with all their restrictions.

Do you read other author’s books when you’re writing? If so, do you read the same genre or something different?

I don’t.

What is the most difficult part of the entire writing process for you? Queries, pitches, editing..etc.

As a marketing major, I shouldn’t admit this but the pitches are not a favorite of mine.


MIA LANSFORD is an own voice and diverse author who writes about the disabled and the men or women able to love them. She lives with her family and adventurous beagle. When she isn’t writing, she’s usually learning a new crochet stitch and using said new stitch in her latest project.
